Security Metal Detectors

There are different types of security detectors, but the most commonly used are the hand held models and walk through models. With the help of a hand held detector, security personnel can physically detect if some person carries a metallic object. From the other side, walk through metal detectors are much quicker, and they alert the security personnel of dangerous objects such as knives or weapons. When the hand held scanner is turned on, transmission usually takes place between the wand and the object that is being inspected. The signal will be interrupted if it detects a metal in the inspected object. In this case, it will produce a sound that will alert the security professional to locate where the metal is hidden.

It is vital that a good level of precautionary measure should be taken considering that most places are security sensitive these days. The security metal detectors are mostly used by security personnel to ensure the safety & security in the airport, the college, the office building or any other areas. The people that are using them can control who enters a specific area and what he/she brings inside it. Metal detectors can deter potential criminals because the criminal will think twice before walking through a security check point, they offer alarm indication, the signal warns of the detection metal object, the indication can be visual and/or auditory and the alarm indication is off until a metal object is detected.

Indian Railway Safety

Safety has been one of the biggest concerns in the Indian Railways system. Railway accidents happen due to several reasons. An incorrect signal, a mistake or an act of negligence by one of its staff directly associated with the running of trains, deficiency in tracks, a rash act by one of the millions of road users, an irresponsible act by a passenger who carries inflammable goods. Majority of the accidents were caused due to derailments. Recently At least thirteen coaches of the Vasco Da Gama-Patna express derailed at Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh on Friday (24 November, 2017) morning. Many people injured in this accident.

Safety Action Plans were continually executed to reduce accidents. Periodical safety audits of different Divisions by multidisciplinary teams of Zonal Railways as well as inter-railway safety audits were conducted on regular basis. A multi-pronged approach with focus on introduction of newer technologies, mechanization of maintenance, early detection of flaws, etc. to reduce human dependence in the first place, along with upgrading the skills of the human resources were the prime drivers for accident prevention.

Warehouse Security

Warehouse security is one of the most important aspects of many commercial businesses. Companies all over the world depend on their warehouses to store valuable aspects of their business, and security problems will result in financial losses as well as lower employee morale. That’s why logistics companies and storage facilities must have physical barriers and security deterrents that guard against unauthorized access.

Alarm systems and high definition video surveillance cameras are both essential elements of warehouse security. With the help of a carefully placed security camera, warehouse owners and managers can focus on at-risk areas and minimize the threat of theft. The presence of a warehouse security officer in itself offers security to a location and its property and staff. A warehouse security officer will protect a company’s property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment. Whether on a post or through regular patrols, a warehouse security officer represents a live, ready-to-act party on the scene.

Importance of Security Audit

Security measures are of little use if they are not enforced. A security audit assesses how effectively your organization’s security policies are being implemented. Audits will show where gaps and vulnerabilities exist in current systems and procedures. Security audits also play an important role in internal investigations when anomalies are discovered or wrongdoing is suspected. Although there are a million good reasons a physical security audit is important, perhaps the most relevant to all people everywhere, regardless of data or regulations - is bodily safety.

Many times, security is an afterthought that only gets attention after a break-in. Conducting regular security audits can help keep security a priority at all times. In your business, security audits can help understand their role in keeping the building and its contents secure. You can update employee control systems, give or revoke access privileges, and remind everyone of your established security protocol. Whether you’re securing home or business property, security audits can help you catch small problems before they become big security issues.

Goods & Services Tax

Making the biggest change in the four-month-old goods and services tax regime, the GST Council on Friday moved 80 per cent of items in the top 28 per cent tax bracket to lower rates. When GST was rolled out on July 1, more than 250 items were in the highest tax bracket. The top tax rate is now restricted only to luxury and demerit goods like pan masala, aerated water and beverages, cigars and cigarettes. All restaurants will be levied GST at 5 per cent, without input tax credit (ITC) benefits. So, only luxury and sins goods are now only in the highest tax bracket and items of daily use are shifted to 18 per cent.

The government also reduced the levy under composition scheme for traders and industry to 1 per cent of turnover, with further easing for those selling exempted goods. These revisions in rates are expected to reduce prices and increase consumption and thereby bring growth for the consumer products and retail industry," EY India said in a statement. More than the revenue considerations, the move is aimed at cheering consumers and placating traders and small businesses who have been complaining of higher compliance burden.

Security within Banking Sector

Banks face a difficult challenge in the area of security management. With a growing population of internal and external users accessing an increasing number of applications, the need has grown exponentially for banks to develop a new generation of security tools that can help them better comply with regulations, control access to confidential data and limit identity theft. The public wants to be secure when doing business with banks, and their physical security is critical. They also want the assurance that banks have the structures to secure their assets and protect them from misuse erosion or theft and fraud.

Criminals seek out opportunities to commit crimes at facilities that are the easiest targets. The presence of an armed security guard greatly reduces the chances of a robbery ever occurring. Physical Security in Banks ensures that:
  • Staff Members, Cash and properties are protected from crimes perpetrated by external miscreants.
  • Physical Security Risks are properly identified, assessed, recorded and managed.

Industrial fires

The consequences of a major industrial fire can be catastrophic, potentially impacting on the business ability to survive, workforce safety and employment, the local environment and the surrounding community. Companies involved in the manufacture or distribution of seasonal or fast-turnaround stock run the risk of using every conceivable space for storage without sufficiently considering the implications for the safe evacuation of employees in a fire, or the safety of the emergency services tackling a blaze as a result of blocked access or evacuation routes.

Fires and explosions needlessly kill and injure employees and damage billions of dollars worth of property. Protection from fire ensures that a small containable fire in a trash can does not turn into a catastrophic event which can devastate a business, the lives of workers and a community. Fire could be avoided through preventive maintenance and frequent inspection and testing of equipment and electrical systems; taking proper safety precautions during maintenance operations; and using caution around open flames. A host of factors building design and materials, machinery, wiring, fire suppression systems, emergency response programs, alarm systems, inspection and testing of fire response equipment and systems, chemicals on site, training, housekeeping, end products — can work alone or combine to impact on fire resistance.

Building Security

It seems certain kinds of buildings are just magnets for vandalism, thefts and burglaries. Gated communities, shopping centers, and large department stores have traditionally been plagued with these crimes. More recently, however, office buildings and small businesses seem to be increasingly targeted for break-ins. This may be because the assumption is made that a smaller office building or any smaller business would not be secure or protected, and criminals may believe it will be easier to “hit and run” without tripping alarms.

Every office building has a unique set of security requirements that deserve a tailored approach. There are basically two ways to provide protection for any business or infrastructure, and that is with technology, as in alarm systems, CCTV, access card system, etc., or with personnel security officers. Security personnel maintain a professional demeanor while creating a secure environment for businesses and their network of employees, clients and visitors. Security officers protect property, enforce laws on the property, deter criminal activity, and deal with other problems. Professional Security is required to maintain healthy working environment and to ensure safety of working people.
